Fitness for Service Assessment (API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 & BS 7910)
Fitness For Service assessment consists of quantitative engineering evaluations which are performed to demonstrate the structural integrity of an in-service component containing a flaw or a damage. FFS process aims at evaluating whether or not equipment, although being in a downgraded condition, is still safe enough to continue its service in specified conditions, for a certain period of time.
Industry guidelines such as API 579/ASME FFS-1 & BS 7910 are used to assess the integrity of critical pressure components and welded structures against different failure modes using a validated engineering approach and helps plat management to make run-repair-replace decisions.
