Corrosion Management

Corrosion is a naturally occurring phenomenon commonly defined as the deterioration of a material (usually a metal) that results from a chemical or electrochemical reaction with its environment.

In 2016 corrosion study by NACE International reveals the global cost of corrosion is estimated to be US$2.5 trillion, which is equivalent to 3.4% of the global GDP (2013). By using available corrosion control practices, it is estimated that savings of between 15 and 35% of the cost of corrosion could be realized; i.e., between US$375 and $875 billion annually on a global basis. These costs typically do not include individual safety or environmental consequences. Through near misses, incidents, forced shutdowns (outages), accidents, etc., several industries have come to realize that lack of corrosion management can be very costly and that, through proper corrosion management, significant cost savings can be achieved over the lifetime of an asset.

Maintaining effective corrosion management program which starts as early as the conceptual design phase, and it continues throughout the design life of the facility is essential for achieving high reliability at any oil and gas production or refining facility.

ARAIS offers a suite of studies designed to intervene and mitigate the negative causes and impact of complex challenges that are associated with corrosion issues specially on ageing assets that maximize production uptime while maintaining the highest possible safety standards such as:

  • Corrosion Management System audit and gap analysis
  • Development of Corrosion Management Polices at the Corporate Level
  • Corrosion Risk Assessment (CRA)
  • Material Selection Study / Corrosion Design Basis Memorandum (CDBM)
  • Corrosion Management Plan (CMP)
  • Corrosion Under Insulation Study and Integrity Management Plan
  • Cathodic Protection Design
  • Integrity Operating Window
